Let's get to know Monstera Deliciosa in general. Monstera Deliciosa can be simply recognised just by looking at the leaves. But apparently, many get confused too. So, just to be sure, let me describe it in detail.
First, let's start with the anatomy of the Monstera plant. See my drawing below, and I hope my drawing illustrates each part of monstera plant clearly. I find it very important to know this before investing in monstera plant, especially the expensive ones, like Thai Constellation & Albo. Then, you will understand how to look for one and care for them.
Matured Monstera Deliciosa leaves can be very large, glossy, deep green, and distinctively cut and perforated. Of course, the size of the leaves depends on the maturity of the plant. Another main characteristic is the long petiole, thick stem and long areal roots. However, how can you tell it is a montera plant when it is only a baby plant? The leaves will not have any cuts or perforations, just like normal leaves.
Let me help you with this. Most monstera you can find at the local store are usually pretty big with cuts on the leaves, but not all will have perforations. From my experience, if the plant is too small and no cuts on the leaves, I can generally tell by looking at the stem, and most important is the long petiole. You will not see any aerial roots or shoots nodes on baby monstera as the internodes are too short.
I hope, by now, you already know how to recognise a Monstera Plant. Next topic, I will share how to differentiate between normal green Monstera Deliciosa, Monstera Deliciosa Thai Constellation and Monstera Deliciosa Albo. Stay tuned, guys!
